About Goodwill

Goodwill is not one company but a network of more than 150 independent regional nonprofits across the US and Canada, each operating its own stores, donation centers, and job-training programs. Revenue from the stores funds employment services — job coaching, résumé help, and skills training — in the region where you shop or donate.

Because each region is independent, prices, discount days, and donation rules vary by territory. Many regions also run Goodwill Outlet locations ("the bins"), where unsold goods from retail stores are sold by the pound as a last stop before salvage.

Donating (or selling) to them

Most locations accept clothing, shoes, books and media, housewares, small working electronics, and small furniture at drive-up donation doors during posted hours. Most regions do not take mattresses, cribs and car seats, CRT televisions, chemicals, or large appliances.

Home pickup is offered by some regions only — check your local Goodwill’s website. Donation receipts for tax purposes are available at every donation door.

Shopping there

Most regions run rotating color-tag discounts (a color goes half-off each week) and many have a weekly discount day for seniors, students, or military — schedules are set regionally, so check the store’s page or call ahead.
